What can be recovered, and what resists
Often recoverable: an accidental deletion, a quick format, a lost partition, a system that won't start with a healthy disk, a USB stick or SD card asking to be formatted. The files are almost always still there, just made invisible.
Harder: a disk that clicks or grinds (mechanical failure: it needs a clean room, and we'll give you the address of a specialist lab), an SSD whose controller has failed, or a drive already overwritten by repair attempts.
