The scams doing the rounds in Guadeloupe

For an individual or a small business, security comes down to a few reflexes and a handful of scams to recognise.

The fake delivery text message comes top: a link that imitates a courier and asks for "a few euros in customs fees", meaning your card details. Next come the fake bank or health-insurance message, the fake tech support call (a red screen and a number to call) that gets you to install a remote-access tool, and ransomware that encrypts your files. Against the last one, only a recent, tested backup can save you.

What we put in place is simple: an account that isn't administrator, updates applied, a separate password per service in an encrypted vault, two-factor authentication on e-mail and banking, a backup that actually restores. These settings block the vast majority of attacks against individuals.
